This is admittedly a bit of a side-bar on this discussion but after having read through a whole lot of threads dealing with this sort of thing wherein people are complaining about the comfort of their trousers and jeans, I just gotta ask...

...where the hell do you guys buy your pants?

I've had pants/jeans/trousers that haven't fit as well as they could but I just get rid of them and find some that fit...there's never been that much of a problem with comfort that I would categorically say that I was going to wear the kilt ONLY for the rest of all time.

And part of the way that I have defused the whole thing has been to wear the kilt now and then and wear the trousers now and then so that it is obvious that the kilt is a part of my wardrobe and not some kind of "in your face" thing or some kind of a "statement" or an eccentricity; it's just part of what I wear.

Good point. My pants are all comfortable...ok, except for one pair, but that pair also has a purpose.

A good cut is key to avoiding the dreaded meat sandwich. Dr. Jays...Karmaloop...that is where I buy my jeans. I only own one pair of nuthuggers, and they go with a particular style, and it looks good, but that's the only pair I own in that style...a guy cannot wear baggy jeans with a sport coat, it looks stupid. The USDAs just don't fit with anything other than tshirts and hoodies. Even my garage pants are cut roomy, to move around.

Same sorta deal with dress pants and slacks...as long as I got room to move, so to speak, I'm good.

Kilts are just more...breathable, roomy, etc...yeah, my pants are all comfortable, but the kilt beats 'em all by a mile.

I actually wear baggy pants but still find them restrictive and binding at times, and by the end of the work day I can't wait to be free of them!

The discomfort in trousers is not so much the fit as the boxed-in effect on the “wedding tackle”.
For decades now I have worn boxer shorts under my trousers, because they are more comfortable than tight underwear.
Tight underwear was what I was used to as a boy and in the early years of my marriage, but I eventually developed a fungal rash and my doctor recommended boxers.
Yet even with boxers I find a degree of discomfort, especially with sticky sweat.
I have tried going commando with trousers, but it is risky. And since I often forget to zip up my fly (I am rather absent-minded), the risk of embarrassing myself or of offending someone is that much greater.
Thinking back to my time in the regiment, I recall that I did not experience that discomfort when wearing the kilt, and I wonder that I have put up with trousers all these years.

I don't work in an office, much, I work out in the desert. Office attire to me includes shorts and soon, a kilt as well. Since I carry Leatherman or Gerber tools for my EDC (Every Day carry), and often a folding Buck, I could possibly get away with the Sgian Dubh. BUT, while my immediate supervisory staff is aware of the my plans, I don't know what Senior staff will think. So I will have normal cargo shorts on hand in case... Of course, there are days I have to go to the main offices, and jeans are more than appropriate. Although, I would imagine a kilt would be fine in that case as well.

I actually only own one pair of pants, and it only gets put on when I need to snowblow the driveway! I wear cargo shorts and collared plaid t-shirts pretty much all the time (remember here I live in Canada and we do get days of -35c in the winter relatively regularly).

I wear my kilt to work probably once a month. I'm a highschool math teacher so the kids get a kick out of me wearing the shorts all the time. I like having my knees exposed, what can I say?
