Apron Overlap, he wants it on the left. Help!

This is a bit tricky, I may be making a kilt for a friend he want the opening of the apron an all the buckles/ fastening on the left side of the apron. I have gently tried to discourage this saying that is the side the Ladies kilted skirts open on however he is some what insistent on having a left hand kilt.

It will be his kilt so he can have it any way he wants, that being said should I keep trying to convince him that it should be on the right.

There is a very good reason he wants it on the left, If I must make it left accessible Do you think I can disguise the apron opening in the pleat and then sew down the right side opening and balance buckles one active on the left and one passive on the right?

Did he give you a reason for wanting it that way? Maybe if you showed him a woman's blouse and a man's shirt that button on the opposite sides, you can equate that with right and left on the kilt.

However, if that doesn't work, he is the 'customer," and he may still want to have it done his way. Good luck!

All I'd add here is that a lower buckle is always passive, so rather than putting two on, I'd say to leave both off.

Also, I've seen a kilt made with reversable aprons, so you can actually choose which one you want on top. You might try that.

Otherwise, if there's a good reason why he wants to have his kilt close like a skirt, and it won't bother him if it does, then I suppose you should just make it that way.

I can't see any reason why anyone would be apt to pay much attention to which way a kilt closes. For several years I had a kilt with the pleats reversed so that it was easier to slide into a car, and no one ever commented about it being "backward". Since, as you say, the client has a good reason for wanting a left-handed kilt, who are we to try and talk him out of it?

Make him a left-handed kilt then. we have left-hand can openers, scissors, tools. Just go single straps on either side and possibly fringing both sides would help disguise it. I'll not look down on him because his kilt opens on the opposite side as mine. As MoR pointed out the knife pleats would work better when climb into a LHD car (as the driver at least).

If he wants it on the left and you have explained that is normally the women's side, give him what he wants. It is his nickel (so to speak.)

We have all these things because it's no longer allowed to drown the "sinister" as witches

Apparently THEY (and to a degree, I) need these conveniences.

To the OP, If your chappie want's a leftie kilt, make the man what he wants.
