| | | Belt DIrection?
OK, Noob question.
Q: Which direction should the tip of the belt worn over a kilt, face? Towards the left hand or the right hand of the male wearer?
I've seen both in a few pics and was wondering if there is a rule of thumb.
I mean, in "the evil biforcated clothes of restriction" it's tradition (around here anyway) that mens belts end with the tip on the mans left hand side. Womans to the right.

Same with those dreaded trousers threaded counter clockwise with the pointy end toward your left hip.

I wear my kilt belts (when I wear a belt with a kilt) same as I do/did with pants. Extra runs around my left side.
A lot of catalog photos get reversed for various reasons. And, I think, some of the Confederate belts back in "that war" were worn with the tail end running to the right...but maybe those pics were reversed too.

Yeah, extra towards the left hip usually. If you're wearing a UK it's especially important as the open apron is on the right, and you can't get the buckle through the belt loops.

Actually I'm not aware of any rules (unless you are in the military) as to which way a belt must go. For a standard belt I would think that whether you are right or left handed might make a difference as to which way it went.
So for a kilt belt where you have extra I would say what ever is more comfortable. For a kilt belt with a waist plate it doesn't matter, it will look the same either way unless the waist plate's design needs to go a certain way.

I have never heard that it makes a difference before. Mine excess belt usually runs to the right hip, but maybe that's because I'm a lefty.

Actually there is a tradition. Weird but it is there. If you look at the waistplate buckles that have an up and down you will find that that the belt goes around yourself in the opposite direction that a trouser belt goes.
For example; If you buy a Clan Crest Waistplate, mount it on the Waistbelt, to wear it you hold the Waistplate in the right hand and clip it to the free end of the belt in your left hand.
If you imagine threading that same free end through belt loops you need to start threading on the right hip.
Of course if your Waistplate could be worn with no "right" side up you can thread it any way you like.
I usually remove the Clan Crest and re-install it oriented the other way and then thread my Waistbelt the same as I do a trouser belt. Starting on the left hip.

To kind of reemphasize what Steve said. I wear all my belts just like on a pair of pants, with the one exception of the one buckle that would obviously be upside down it I wore it that way.
