Best Hose colours to go with Nova Scotia Tartan

As the title states, I'm looking to the opinions of the Rabble as to what colour Hose would look good with the Nova Scotia provincial Tartan.

I'm looking at a pair of Diced hose, Red and Green or Red and White. Apart from that I'd like a pair of solid hose, other than my Lovat Green and my Brown Hose...

Navy blue solid hose with burgundy flashes.

Lovat bue or St. Andrew's blue, something along those lines if you want a matchy look, otherwise, whatever colour you like.

Not many people wear a Nova Scotia tartan here in Nova Scotia unless they're in the tourist trade. I imagine because there are so many people of Scottish descent that they have their own family tartan to wear. However, the few that I have seen not in the tourist trade, over the 16 years that I've lived in Halifax, have to a man (and one woman) worn matching tartan hose with gold or dark red flashes. The ones in tourism generally wear cream hose with dark or bright red flashes.
I'm not sure I'd go with the red/white diced hose as they have a strong association with the 78th Highlanders at the Halifax Citadel. In fact, I've only ever seen the red/white diced hose on the soldiers or at a formal evening event.

I would have to see the tartan to get a notion about coordinating colours, but in general I think it gives the overall "look" more pizazz if the hose are a colour other than the tartan's primary colours, or indeed any of the kilt's colours.

Perhaps think of the kilt not as a collection of several colours, but as a single selfcoloured garment.

So yesterday I wore the same outfit as seen in my avatar, an Isle of Skye kilt with claret hose and a charcoal jacket. The whole coordinates in a lovely way though none of the colours of the kilt are to be seen in either the jacket or the hose.

Much as you would avoid, while wearing Saxon dress, a sportcoat and trousers of similar colours.

About red & white diced hose, they have had a long popularity in civilian Highland dress which predates their military adoption.

Some kind of lovat blue would be a safe bet, but I always like it when the hose can draw out one of the minor colors in the tartan, so I might suggest red or yellow hose in this case.

I've been on the search for some Claret hose and Yellow/Gold Hose to go with it. Seems come pay day I may have to buy some from the STM! So very few places that have those colour hose!

I was afraid to go with the Blue hose.. Didnt want to be overly "Matchy"

Yes after seeing the tartan, purple hose is what pops into my mind.

About orange, I've seen orange hose which are a lovely somewhat muted orange.

Claret could work nicely as well- the claret in the tartan is merely a fine line, so there's no "matchy matchy" danger!
