Hi, I have just ordered a Black Watch kilt, but unsure if my brown sporran, belt and boots would look ok. Perhaps black would be better for the leathers. Your advice please X-markers.

Either one will work just fine, just make sure that the belt, sporran and boots match.

Ok, this is coming from a blind guy, so it might mean nothing. The black in the Black Wach isn't enough black to kick in the no mixing of black and brown fassion rule; it's just some thin lines from what I can tell from the thread count. People have started wearing black shoes and belts with dark navy blue pants now, so I would say either way would be fine. I wouldn't mix shoe and belt colors though. Again, that's from a blind guy and I can't look at it to tell.

I wear brown leather. I like the way it looks and the boots I already had were brown. The brown also makes a nice contrast with the dark colors of the Black Watch.

I generally wear brown for less formal, or day situations, and black for more formal, or night events.

You really can't go wrong with brown for daytime wear--even somewhat dressy--and black in the evening. It's not a law or anything, and most of us mix it up, but as a general rule, follow the rule.
Hey, I think this makes my 1000th posting on Xmarks!

Welcome! I think black and brown would both look good! As some have mentioned, there are some rules about when to wear what. But like all fashion rules, some adhere to all of them all the time, some never do, and most find a happy medium between the two extremes.
Which would you prefer to wear? Buy that first. Don't worry, whichever color leather you purchase, you'll be wanting the other color as well, soon enough.
Also, since I am putting this next sentence in brackets, it doesn't exist, ergo it's not off-topic. [Congrats TheScot!]
