    Buchanan tartan...

I'm helping a close friend get his first kilt in his clan tartan, Buchanan. He is a casual guy, like me, and I am going to gift him with a decent sporran and belt. I can't remember the tartan well enough to know how well brown will go with it, or should I get black instead. Again, he'll wear it casually and I prefer brown when doing the casual thing, so I'd like to get him brown but how well will brown work with the tartan.

    Opinions?

Why not a reddish brown colour?

IIRC correctly, that tartan would match that colour.

Brown would look really great with weathered or ancient Buchanan. I think with modern black would look good, or a very dark brown.

What source is the kilt coming from? If it is the modern Buchanan, which can be fairly loud, I would stick with black. If it's more towards the ancient side like Rocky and Pete carry, brown will look pretty decent, but I would still stay with black so that there is a bit more versatility.

Yep, I would wear "chestnut" brown with the ancient or weathered Buchanan. Maybe O'Neille or MB can post a picture as such? I seem to remember them cashing in on the pipeband closeout on Ebay...

You make a good point, Brother Dread. This is what I was thinking about getting:

Scroll down to the "Casual Kilt Belt and Buckle". I have that belt, and that sporran and really like them both very much. I'd like to get him something that will last many years that looks really good. That combo has been great for me.

    Edit:
Wow you guys are fast! LOL The tartan is the "standard" Buchanan - it is certainly not ancient because the colours are quite loud. Matt, it's the one you call "the familiar Buchanan" on the albanach site.

Okay, let me go one step further - when I say casual, I mean he'll mainly be kilted in T-shirt and Tevas. I think since the colours are so loud, the black might be better, but can black be "that casual"? LOL

Hey, now... my avatar's wearing the regular Buchanan.

It's nowhere *near* as loud as the MacLOUD.
