FYI, It is my understanding that this tartan is a recent (1991) invention. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but some folks mistakenly assume that if a tartan is registered for their surname it is 1) historic and 2) an actual clan tartan. You might really consider getting a tartan in one of the MacMillan tartans, since Walker is a surname associated with that clan. They are much more readily available and you may enjoy being part of a "clan" and wearing that clan's tartan. I'd hate to see you go to the hassle of getting a tartan custom-woven for a kilt and then deciding that isn't really what you want.

Best of luck!

Cordially,

David

Well, the Walker Clan has never had a chance to have old Tartans because it was just organized over the past few decades. I need to trace the family history back to Scotland, then I could make better decisions from that.

Yes, I understood about the fact that the Tartan was not Historic. But from my understanding, it is the closest thing for Walker available. Yes, MacMillan will most likely happen at some point, so will MacDougall, which is also in my family.

Know I'm late here, but I have high praise for Geoffrey (tailor) and have visited both shops. I have a wonderful kilt from their shop and more items on order. they offer great service.

I haven't but if it is the same as John Morrison of the High St, Edinburgh, then it is now part of the Gold Brothers Empire (who are HQ'd in Kirkaldy), albeit still a traditional bespoke part.

Geoffrey Tailor is pretty good. I'd also second the earlier recommendation of Celtic Craft Centre. I walked in on a visit and got a second-hand Robertson in 16 oz. for a great price. They altered it right there for me and were really great.
