"Cali" Brogues

I was wondering if anyone here had the Cali Brogues from SportKilt and what you thought of them. I was thinking of ordering a pair. My concerns are that I wear a 9.5 (US), not one of the listed sizes; and ordering shoes online is a general concern.

They don't look like you'll be able to put on much of a shine, and with an odd number of lace holes you won't be able to do a military "cross-only" lacing which is much more attractive on a toe-cap shoe.

I relate very much to the "difficulty with size" thing - I wear an EEEE when I can get it, and other times I just have to wear a shoe that's too big in order to get the width.

The page linked to strikes me as odd- it describes a shoe that is "a more modern version of the ghillie brogue" but the shoe pictured is simply an ordinary shoe, like the work shoes you can get at any work shoe place, bearing no resemblance to a ghillie whatsoever.

They are not what I would call a brogue. In the UK they would be called an Oxford toe cap. Why would anybody want to wear steel toe caps when not at work? Shoes with steel toe caps are heavy. The chances of anybody dropping their caber on their toe must be very slim. Looks to me like Sport Kilt have bought a load of work shoes and are selling them under a different name.

& yes Chas is right, the STEEL shoes I posted a link to are HEAVY but well made. So you can give yourself a workout while wearing them

Buying shoes online is tricky... sizing varies a lot. I personally wouldn't buy shoes online unless I had tried on the same shoe at a shop beforehand.

As for the style, I don't have those particular shoes but I do wear steel cap-toe Oxfords made by Doc Martens. IMHO they are OK for casual wear and I've always liked steel toes for the ruggedness of the look.

Why would anybody want to wear steel toe caps when not at work? Shoes with steel toe caps are heavy.

They're really not that bad. I wear steel-toed boots all the time, even though I rarely set foot on my jobsites where they're required. Once you're used to them, it actually feels weird going back to a lightweight flexible non-steel-toe shoe. They feel like house slippers.

It's just a matter of personal taste. But it's not like you're lugging around huge amounts of weight on your feet that is akin to getting a workout or anything. After a few days you hardly notice it.
