    casual kilts & footwear

I just ordered a casual kilt from USA kilts (US Army tartan), and am a little concerned with casual footwear. Now, when not at work, I usually wear as little clothing as I can get away with; T-shirt, shorts, flipflops. As this is my first foray into kilting, and I am going to be using this for hiking (this answer is obvious) and general kicking around, I'm wondering what people usually wear for casual dress i.e. not hose & brogues. I got a casual kilt, so, it'll be riding on the hips (my band, when I finally am good enough on the pipes, will supply a trad kilt, sporran, brogues, etc). I'm thinking of digging out my OLD pair of docs, or maybe simple black shoes, or even my sandals. Just wondering if anyone else out there has some suggestions? Thanks!

Wear just hiking shoes, like I did when I took my memorial day hike to the Canyon near me. The word is comfort.Just wear what is comfortable.

I wear sandals, etc. all the time. Payless Shoes has a sandal type shoe made by Airwalk that I absolutely love. Here's a link to their product page: http://www.payless.com/Catalog/Produ...iveColor=Black

I swear by these for maximum comfort. One word of caution if you get these: beware slick pavement. These shoes are insanely comfortable and unbelievably light, but they have absolutely NO traction on wet surfaces, despite the name.

Depending on the time/place - sandals (I like Clark's and Teva's), lace up casual shoes with kilt socks, or hiking boots and scrunged down socks.

I generally wear Keens. Great shoes and they look like a modern gillie.

Break out the Docs. I either wear them or my 3/4 high black Red Wings. I do regularly wander around my yard barefoot whilst kilted, but most times you'll find me in black boots of one sort or another.

Wear what you think looks best in your eyes. Forget about the kilt police, do whatcha want.

I like to wear a pair of Corcoran jump boots when I go casual in my kilt. They look great (especially with a kilt) but aren't the world's most comfortable footwear.
