CCW with a kilt

I just got my first pistol today (but have had rifles for many years). I intend to apply for my state's CCW permit and was wondering if anyone else here is a CCW holder. Considering what's the best way to pack (concealed) with a kilt on.

As a matter of fact...just today I was wearing my cammo PK and had a 5 inch barrel 44 mag. in the apron pocket. The pocket held it nicely and even with a hefty piece like that there was not a bit of noticable pull to the pleats or outer apron. Nice work Jeff!!!

I have different results from Mike. My 4" S&W M-686 shows a bulge in the under-apron pocket of my PK, but my Always Gun (an S&W M-640) rides just fine in the under-apron pocket.

As an aside, I can stick the 4" M-686, and a 4.75" Single Action Army in the side pockets and they don't show at all.

As for the UK, I've seen the Kilted Cossack make a 7.5" Ruger Super Blackhawk disappear in the pockets of a UK Mocker.

At the moment, the only other option that comes to mind is using a fanny pack holster as a sporran, which I've also done. Hopefully, before the end of summer, I will have a prototype Soporran Holster ready. I'll keep you posted as to results.

Magnus, I have a PA CCW permit. I'd imagine that the best way with a tratditional kilt would be like Doc said in a fanny pack w/ a hidden holster in place of the sporran. But it would depend on the type of weapon being concealled.(dont know how hard they are to draw from though) . you could keep it in a shoulder harness rig under a big shirt/jacket,they also have those spandex/elastic holsters that fit tight against your waist in a hidden carry, they are kinda hard to draw from . Or in one of those in the small of your back holsters that clip fast to your pants.(not so fun to sit down in). Thats about all I can think of at the moment. Just try a couple of different ways to see what your comfortable with.

I don't carry a weapon. Guns aren't my thing.

But as long as we're talking holsters, I want one of these for my cell phone.

I find that for most situations, I don't need a gun.

I just need one of these.

And then suitable application of a large heavy blunt object. Like, say, my cane. Or a lamp post. A sign mayhap. Or a bistro table. Whatever is handy. You know the drill.

But guns are nice for those rare situations when you need them.

Shoulder holsters are tough to find that are comfortable for a big guy.

You can find one, just don't bet on finding it on the first or even third try.
I sometimes wear a shoulder holster under my shirt. It works best with a snap front shirt, that way you won't have to rip buttons to make a fast draw.

As for small of the back carry, that is dangerous. If you fall, it can severely injure your spine.

If you routinely wear a vest or untucked shirt, you might consider an Inside the Waistband Holster, if you have room to spare in your kilt.

Another option is a contraption called Thunderwear. I don't know how well you'd be able to access the holster in a kilt, but I suspect that it might lead to a serious flashing incident.

Kramer Holsters in, IIRC, Seattle makes an undershirt with built-in shoulder holster. I've not tried one, but I've heard some good reviews.

Looks to be a bit much for the average cell phone, but if that's what you want, go for it.

Personally, since I gave up my old analog flip phone, I've quit using a holster for my phone and just stuff it in a pocket or in my fanny pack.

Not all of us have your shoulders nor your penchant for blunt instruments. Some of us prefer to keep our enemies at a distance if possible.

BTW, I thought of you yesterday as I was looking at an advertisement for a Cold Steel War Hammer. I suspect that you could trim it to the perfect length for a cane if the head would give your hand enough support.

I like my enemies close, so I can see the fear come into their eyes. And the sudden acrid smell their sweat takes on when their adrenaline kicks in. The sudden uncontrolable twitching of their muscles, expecially in their face as they are consumed by gut wrenching panic.

Er...

What? Nobody has ever been in life or death close combat before? Why ya'll looking at me like that?
