Childrens kilts and sgian dubhs

I am getting married at lennoxlove in November and can't wai to show the trtan off. My sister inae to be wants to dress her to boys 7 and 4 in casual kilts and they would love to get them 2 faux sgian dubhs any one know anywhere that does little person friendly kilts???

I got my son's PV kilt from USA Kilts for a very fair price. I'm more than pleased and he wears it all the time.

I have no idea how to make a sgian diugh, but I love making wee kilts for children.

I grew up whittling, but I am afraid anything resembling a knife is going to be trouble for your younger kilted gents. And the less it is like a knife, the less worthwhile it is going to be. (Who wants a spoon in his sock?) On the other hand, a sword is a fine accessory for a wedding and I suspect a 4 and 7 year old can have a grand, but safe time with a sword. Think of the pictures of the two of them forming a slightly truncated arch for the bride and groom. Think of the mayhem caused by the two of them running full tilt through the reception, slashing away. And then think of their grandmother or some other kindly adult female disarming them for a while.

If you must have a sgian for them, I'd consider the kind that do not actually come out of the sheath. The lads will know it is a gyp, but it will be one more almost authentic piece of their outfit.

But get the swords, please.

You can find fake sgian dubhs at the Celtic Croft, They also carry "Sgian Brus" for the older guys who don't feel like carrying a knife. http://www.kilts-n-stuff.com/index.p...roducts.search

I just had a vision of tiny toy lightsabers shoved in hose tops- kids would love that if you could pull it off with the right size toy. And it would build on kilt wearing for the future.

I concure with Celtic Croft idea. I have seen their "fake" sgian dubhs and from the top of the hose you can't tell the difference. Stillwater makes a "cost effective" kid's kilt, I think.

As for help, any number of outlets sell plastic ones with "proper" tops, some with "stones", and a rounded "blade". My youngest, now 14, has had fake ones for years but will, come the next occasion (wedding, funeral, trip to Edinburgh etc) be getting his first real one.
