    Colored Hose

Question for the fashion gurus out there. I know white hose tends to be reserved for the full formal look, but what about black hose? Is it acceptable in a dress or semi-dress capacity? What about the blue or green lovat varieties? Opinions?

I like to wear black hose with my formal outfit, mainly because of the black jacket. I don't really like the off white hose in a formal look, although if you wear the ghillie brogues it does set off the laces really well.

I will sometimes wear black hose in less than formal setting, but usually only with my MacIan tartan kilt which has a fair amount of black in it. And even then, only if I am also wearing a black sweater or jacket as well.

The main thing is to coordinate the color with the rest of your outfit.

I personally prefer white hose with formal. I wear off-white/oatmeal-ish colored for casual, usually pushed down to the top of my boot.

Guru I am not and a few months ago I would have told you I prefer cream or off-white hose for formal wear.

Then Todd posted a picture of an Irish piper wearing black hose and then I noticed a photo somewhere else of a guy in black hose with a formal rig on.

Since then I've been playing with a brown and black pair of hose. I'm looking at picking up a few more pair and trying some other colors (Dark green and Dark Blue probably) I really like the darker earth tones.

I could see dark green with the right formal or dressy look. It might be pushing some boundries, but that's ok.

Darker earth tones work well. I am one of those people that just can not wear white. It is a disaster.

I started out with off white for the more informal look and black for the black tie formal. I have worn dark green as these go with my kilt which is mainly dark green with some blue. It's a matter of taste and what my wife says looks good.

I'm sorry...I can't wear white socks for anything...if I'm going formal, I'll match the kose to the jacket or possibly the nectie if it's not a black tie and then it would be a dark color....

I don't own any white hose. I have a pair of off-white hose I'll wear for formal occasions, with a black jacket and a white shirt. Otherwise I wear coloured hose, usually oatmeal, charcoal, or lovatt green. The green goes well with most of my kilts, and brown shoes. The oatmeal goes with everything, and the charcoal goes well with my Ramsay kilt, which has a lot of black in it. I also have a pair of lovatt blue hose, which I don't wear as often, but they still look nice. I have a charcoal jacket which will go well with any of those hose.
