Crazy Idea - but Don't Want to Look the Fool

Had an idea to combine my brown leather Utilikilt with a white band collar shirt and wear my clan tartan sash deal over one shoulder with matching flashes.

Would combine my clan tartan with the leather kilt.

Fear I'd be giggled out of the Las Vegas Highland Games this weekend....? Guess I could just go back to the Viking helmet with the brown leather UK...

    Thoughts appreciated.

Call me crazy, but I think that would look darn sharp, sans the tartan flashes. Personally, I just can't stand tartan flashes....

Are we talking a fly plaid or mini-fly plaid??

A nice coordinated sock with coordinated flashes I think would fit the bill...

A combination of modern/traditional.... You know, if you are comfortable in what you are wearing, and you think you look good, then you feel good....

I am no expert, but since the leather kilt is 'non-traditional', wouldn't traditional dress 'rules' no longer apply??

I think it would look sharp myself.

And unlike Beerbecue, I like the idea of tartan flashes.

Its that sash thing that SportKilt sells. Would fasten it with a clan badge deal. Goes over the shoulder and fastens together down by the waist.

Also would have my brown Freelander Sporran of course with a brown all leather sporran strap from RKilts.

Was thinking cream kilt hose, haven't been able to score any oatmeal ones yet.

Check out Nort of Saint Andrews for Oatmeal kilt hose. Great price and shipping is included. You will need to be able to wait the standard shipping from over seas (about 20 days).

I will have to retract my tartan flash choice on this one.

I think they would look good with one of those sashes.

Which tartan will you be presentin'?

The dress Macdonald that SportKilt sells will be the tartan.

Guess if it don't look too bad I'll do it and get some pics.

    Wait a moment...

Aint a dress tartan for the lassies? Last I checked, anything labled "dress" was.

    The outfit idea sounds sharp.

Good question. I don't know the answer, but I suspect it is not limited to women, but often seen on highland dancers (most of whom are women) because the greater white strips in the dress tartan can be hidden in the pleats (when pleated to the stripe), but revealed when the pleats open (during the dancing), which is a very nice effect.

I personally like the MacTavish dress tartan (see my avatar), but I don't own one and have never worn it. I might, though.

Sorry, was in a hurry when I posted, its the regular Macdonald tartan..main, generic, all purpose, Mark I Mod 0, Macdonald tartan.

I do have a dress Macdonald tartan shirt from Lands End...so I guess you can make a shirt as well as a dress out of a dress tartan.

May not be going to Las Vegas...put off my decision so didn't reserve a room and something big must be going on over there because I can't find a room anywhere...gonna be interesting.
