For a day jacket or Argyll type it should reach no lower than the widest point on the hip, the same place you measured for the kilt hip measurement.

Actually, I was referring in another thread to the old Battle-dress blouses from the Second World War, or the "Ike" Jacket of the US Army.

I would caution against the No. 2 dress tunic, unless all insiginia, rank, decorations, etc. were removed -- and I would almost think about replacing the buttons, because the buttons on these would be regimental issue.

Unless you're doing an impression for a reenactment unit or a pipe band, I would stick with a mufti (civilian) tweed (or other material) sport coat/jacket.

Aaah...

I agree, military buttons and insignia have no place in civilian attire.

I do like though that this tunic is already set up for the kilt..

Well...not necessarily. Former servicemen sometimes wear blue blazers with regimental buttons and bullion badges of their regimental or corps badge with their regimental tie. Others choose to wear lapel badges of a military significance. The Royal British legion, Royal Canadian Legion, etc. have similar uniforms.

In a Remembrance Day, ANZAC Day or another appropriate celebration, full size medals ("gongs") are appropriate, and miniature medals for evening wear.

Yep. The Ike Jacket is based on the Battle-dress blouse of the British & Commonwealth forces -- Canadian and Australian blouses were more tailored and highly sought-after by British soldiers.
