    We see examples of tartan fabric as light as kilt or heavy as blanket being used, with or without decorative / functional pin, in the vintage photos posted elsewhere. I have a small tartan blanket or "rug" as my grandparents would call it and I will use it this fall in the cooler evenings or days. Carry it over your arm or shoulder, pin it or not. It is a fine look and quite functional.
