Kilt fabric is available from quite a few sources. Burnett's & Struth in Barrie ON comes first to mind because It's close to you. Well, at least closer than Scotland.

Any Kiltmaker can order in almost any Kilt fabric you would like.

And then you can buy from most mills direct.

Have you looked at the website for Fraser & Kirkbright in Vancouver?

A word of caution - If you have found fabric in a fabric store that is Tartan, is listed as Wool, and has a fringed selvedge I would be very skeptical. Most fabric store fabrics are far too light to make into a good swishing Kilt.
But if you still want to do it and the fringe bothers you then simply hem the fabric before starting on the Kilt.

I'm sorry if you got answers that were all over the board. We did not understand what it was you were asking. From your first post we assumed you were asking a general question about the weaving of fabrics.
It wasn't until your follow-up posts that we got the real reason you were asking your question.

I got a few yards of Lindsay Modern from a store in mtl, same feel, same thickness as my kilt. but it was fringed. Maybe it is PV, but I have a PV kilt here and it doesn't feel at all like PV. Then again, I am not a specialist. And I have been wrong before.
