SO- no customs/shipping, better quality- USA Kilts is really the best value for the money that you're going to get I say.

From personal experience both USAKILTS and Scotweb sell quality kilts. From reading posts on here there are a good many excellent kilt makers on this sight.

I have two recomendations. First, Burnetts and Struths 5 yard casual. I have one and I love it! It runs about 180 (give or take 10 dollars).

If you have the money, why not look at Skye Highland Outfitters http://www.skyehighlandoutfitters.com

They have a great machine sewn, 8 yard(not like the 5 yard mentioned earlier) wool kilt for 299 dollars! That is better than most vendors on here. He is Norcalpiper on here. Josh is great to work with. In fact, here is a recent review of this specific kilt:

I have had every question answered in a very timely manner and I have not even bought my kilt yet! His wait time is only about 4-6 weeks. Plenty of time to have it before the wedding.

So basically here is what I say:

If you have the money go for the SHO 8 yard for 299. If not, B&S will work great as well.

What he said! I love my B & S kilt! That being said most kilt makers here will do fine work, and if you tell them that it is for your wedding and you have a deadline, they will work with you. I might suggest John at Keltoi (Slohairt), his stuff looks great and he is very knowelgeable. I am sure he would do you up right nice. I personally would love to have a kilt from Steve, or Rocky, or John, Josh, Barb or the guys at Sportkilt, or even my home town kilt maker Kathy Lare. Course I love Kilts!

I don't think I can add anything more substantial then the fellas above have--all good choices. I might try seeing if Matt Newsome has any 'wiggle' room in the waiting list, or if a rush order makes sense for you.

Tartan: No, I have no clan affiliation. As far as I know, I have no scottish ancestry, tho there is strong Irish in there (and we cant trace it back to where in Ireland really, the records get spotty!) so for me it'd be "What I like" and "What looks good"

I've never owned a 5 or 8 yard real kilt before. Like I said, I have casual/utilitkilts, and one Stillwater kilt. Whats the biggest difference between the two, other than 9 feet of wool? Is there a huge improvement with an 8 yard over a 5?

I was more looking for recommendations on quality, price, and time availability... the SHO 8 yard for $299 sounds pretty unbeatable, tho I'd like to support USA Kilts but a 5 yard is $350... (Didnt Jimmy Carbomb from Barleyjuice start then sell USA Kilts? Or did I hear the story wrong?). I had no clue about the quality of the Tartanweb kilts... and I think there were others mentioned here.

Hell, I'd make my own if I had the time! Tho i've never made a wool kilt before. I have a killer grey-cammo kilt I made that gets tons of compliments whenever I wear it out, including from some Utilikilt guys at a festival I was at. Just dont think I'm in the real-wool-traditional-kilt-making-leauge yet! Wonder if I have a pic of that kilt somewhere. I'd love to show it off ;)

Oh and a quick side note... when I first joined here, my then-wife hated the kilts, said I looked like a girl, and was embarassed as all get-out to be seen with me.

I'm since divorced, met someone else, and am now getting married to someone who asked me regarding wedding attire "Are you wearing a kilt? Please?"

Aah how things work out in the end... ;)

If had the money, I would have bought an 8 yard wool rather than my 5 yard from B&S. I think the look is just much better. As far as the difference, there are other people on here that can get into specifics, much more so than I could.. For me, the difference is the number of pleats. I like the look of more pleats on the back.

As far as the kilt maker you choose, I sure you will be happy with who ever it is. Josh (SHO) will treat you really well if you choose his 8 yard (he has already done so with me and I am not a customer yet). If you have the money, do that 8 yard. You will not regret it, no matter which kilt maker you choose
