Going hiking in Colorado this next week!

I'm thinking of taking the kilt hiking (actually wearing it..) It's a wool kilt, tarten is a "Hunters green" not sure of the actual name... shame on me... any advise???

Sure, enjoy yourself and be prepared for very hot, very cold and everything in between. What area are you going to be in?

No clue where you're headed in Colorado. I'm an Orvis Hot Springs junkie (Ridgeway) used to work underground in the mines above Ouray and Telluride in the 60s. Still enjoy going up there and tramping around kilted. Here are a few pics. Bottom line - it works great on the Western Slope.

Cameron Red and Black at the Ice Park above Ouray.

Modern Scott Red along Canyon Creek south of Ouray and the mountains I used to roam inside of as a boy.

Along the Dolores River.

These are all hand sewn kilts. They work great for hiking in the high country. Take your kilts and enjoy your hikes.

I'm sure the local Colorado Rabble has ideas too. Next thing you know you'll be craving a kilt in the Colorado State tartan.

I second what Livingston said. For instance...just today, part of Colorado Springs saw a temperature drop of 30 degrees in 30 minutes due to a storm! I've been in the mountains and seen the temp drop even more during a summer storm. Your gonna have a great time no matter where you go. Come to the Springs area, and Livingston and I might have to take you to Jack Quinn's for a pint of the black!

Livingston, The kilt I own is of the tarten "ancient hunter Roberts" I believe..? Funny story about getting the kilt. I was at a pub talking to some friends of my wife's. One of the girls has a Scottish husband, who's Brother was there. I was talking about looking for a kilt and she over heard me and remarked that Jimi (the brother) had an old kilt he doesn't wear any more (too small at the waist). I asked him the size, 35 inches, and I said "PERFECT, I'd like to buy it from him". He said "NO you won't, I'll GIVE it to ya".... then he said, "NOoo, I take that back I'll give it to ya for a case of Miller Lite...." I said "Your ON!!" I passed him a case of beer the very next day, and received the kilt! I wore it out to the pub after a few weeks, and a little maintenance (the leather straps had to be replace, I used a black leather belt cut to size). He was at the pub and remarked, "I'ee ya loook grrreat! I'm joost glad it has a goot home!"

I'll try to add a picture of the kilt being worn if I can figure out how....???

Now that is a nice looking kilt. The Western Slope has been in the 90's recently and into the 50's at night. Forecast is for more of the same weather. Be careful as storms kick up real fast in the mountains and we still get snow above 9,000ft. in July and the thunder storms can get mean also. Most people don't drink enough water when they are hiking in the dry climate and altitude out here. I'll go through at least several quarts of water on a three hour hike of moderate to hard hiking. You sweat more with a wool kilt, SO drink plenty of water. Use at least an SPF 30 sunscreen also. Have fun, but be safe! Where in Colorado are you going?
