Group Input on My Next Kilt

I'm getting ready to buy a new kilt, and I just wanted to hear what your thoughts are. I have a 13oz 8yrd ancient Hay from scottishkilts.net, and a Black Utilikilt.

I haven't decided on the tartan for my next kilt. I love my traditional, but I would like my next kilt to be a little more comfortable for lounging. Should I get a wool kilt with a more modern cut or should I get a poly-viscous kilt? Should I go for 8yrds or 6? Advice on kiltmakers?

I know a lot is just personal preference, but I'd like to hear your opinions, and the reasons why you feel that way.

8 yard clan (takeyour pick) tartan Bear kilt. You will see a few on the 4th, and that should seal it for you.

My opinion....a leather R-kilt...why...because they are the greatest alternative garment that I have seen in a long time.

Check out USAKilts Victory kilts. Modern materials in a more traditional cut. Great for work, play, or just plain lounging.

I am a bit partial to kiltmakers, so I'll disqualfy myself from that part of your question...

Material? I'd say Poly Vis without a doubt. If you need one for lounging around, It's perfect. The drape is excellent and it's durable as hell. I have put mine through their paces and they hold up like champs. The last 2 BIG +s for PV... It's washable and MUCH CHEAPER than wool.

Bear, Cheapkilts (I think Southern kilt is their new name) and USA Kilts all do PV. Compare models and tartan choices and turnaround time and ASK QUESTIONS. Bear, Chris and I are all pretty good at answering email questions quickly. Hope this helps!

Colin. Yes, I'm going to wait until after Vancouver kilt night to decide, so I can get a good chance to look at the BearKilts. Xcop, Rob, I like those both, and may get a leather kilt one of these days, but I'd like a tartan this time around. Rocky, thanks for the points on the PV, I'm definitely considering it. I think I'd have to see a few more PV's in person before I'm convinced

One of the additional issues is that I might like to pick out an unusual tartan (like the NYC or California state tartans), and it looks like the PV kiltmakers have a pretty limited selection of tartans. Of course, I may just be making it artificially difficult, and I should pick out a PV kilt in an available tartan, and then get a wool one in an harder to find tartan later.

Anyone here ever try anything like the Breacon offered by Kinloch Anderson?

My choice in your position would be poly Vis.

With that you can have a traditional tartan and a kilt that will be as tough as your utilikilt.

I rather feel that a Victory would duplicate what you have in some ways, unless you want another plain kilt.

really the first choice is plain or tartan.
If it's tartan you would not b dissappointed with PV from either Bear or Rocky.

You already know how much I love my recent Black Watch traditional cut PV from USA Kilts.
Black Watch may be a good option unless you live in Ireland
