    How much fabric ?

Just a quick question, am browsing for some tweed fabric to have a jacket and possibly a waistcoat made. Online stores only seem to offer the standard blues, greens and charcoal. Does anyone know how much fabric I would need for a Braemar/Argyll daywear Jacket. I know that I need about 1 mtr @ 45 inches wide for a waistcoat but dont have a clue about the jacket. Incidently I am about a 54 /56 chest so please bear that in mind.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards- Simon

3m-3.5m double width for a jacket but best to check with you tailor first

depends a little on the size of the check/lines if there are any, but normally I would allow about 2.5 for a standard jacket

Note that he mentions 45 in wide fabric, I'd be more toward the 3.5 yard/m end of the spectrum esp given his chest size.

Good point! in the past I've made jackets for with about 2 1/2 metres of double, and had left overs, but wasn't matching up and was a little slimmer then!

Thanks very much for the replies. That gives me a very good idea of what to look for. Paul I didn't realise you made jackets? If you do am seriously starting to save up.

You have only to look at the inside of one of his kilts, to see that he knows his way around a lapel. They look like something from a tailoring textbook.
