Talking I have 13 oz. double width 100% pure worsted wool!!

I have 13 oz. double width 100% pure worsted wool!! In my clan tartan even! two four yard pieces of it in fact! Ebay can be a wonderful thing at times. Now I need a kilt maker, I dont think I want to attempt this one myself. Id hate to mess up nice stuff like this. All 8 yards only cost about $200. What Im thinking is that one piece will make a first real kilt for my dad and the second will be one for me. Also with the left overs, I'd like to make sashes for my fiancee and maybe my sisters for my wedding day. Will any of the kilt makers in here make a kilt or two out of tartan I provide? Also should I get a box or knife pleated kilt? oh the choices!

    Laters~~

    Kiltmakers

I would start by asking Steve at Freedom Kilts if you wanted knife pleats, if it is box pleats Matt wins hands down. Both have stellar reputations and are worth whatever wait required, if in a time curnch start talking to them NOW

Yes, as long as it is worsted wool. The type of pleating is a personal choice. A knife pleated 8-yard kilt is typically worn for formal events. A 4-yard box pleated kilt is quickly gaining in popularity due to its lighter overall weight and more even balance.

If you wish to have this fabric made into knife pleated kilts you have just enough fabric for the kilts. There will not be enough left over for the extra sashes you mentioned.

That strongly points you towards Box Pleats or a reduced fabric kilt.

Steve, it appears he has eight yards of double-width tartan, enough for an 8-yard knife pleat, a 4-yard box pleat, and sashes, flashes, rosettes, etc.

A 13 oz box pleat kilt would be perfect in Hawaii.

Steve's numbers are correct. Bill stated he is going to have two kilts made (one for his dad and the other for himself).

As long as I don't have to take my shoes off I'm ok with numbers like "two four yard pieces of it in fact!".

I do ponder however how many yards of each color of yarn you would have if you striped the yarns one-by-one and laid them end-to-end?
