    Irish Kilt Advice Needed

I'm considering another USAK semi traditional purchase and would like a solid kilt to reflect my Irish heritage. I'm torn between saffron or the bottle green. Any advice to a newbie? Which color is more immediately recognized as Irish? The new kilt will be worn on my trip to SW Ireland this May. I'll probably wear the kilt with 'safari' type shirts and earth tone sweaters. Many thanks for you help!

Either would probably be fine. I would look at which color looks best on you. Some people, like me, look aughful in saffron, others might not look so good in the green.

As you have decided on a solid kilt green or saffron, I would go with saffron. IMHO it's more Irish than green but as said what looks best on you is most important.

Yeah, go with the saffron-- kilts aren't part of the Irish national psyche, so don't be too suprised if most people you meet think you're a little daft. Generally the Irish are pretty tolerant and you shouldn't get punched out too often. Just kidding about that last part. Most people will think you are a refugee from an Irish pipe band.

When faced with a similar choice between the Stillwater Heavyweight kilts I went for green. It goes with more things, very few people will get the connection between the saffron kilt and the fact that saffron kilts were worn by pipers in Irish regiments , and finally (and most important) I liked the green color better.

So the real question is, when looking at the 2 colors on the USA Kilts site, which one appeals to you (and your Irish side) more?

    Cheers

I have a saffron kilt, but my pipe band, which is Irish, wears green. It's personal taste, really.

I have a saffron, and absolutely love it. Great color, and it received a lot of positive comments.

My next kilt is going to be a SWK saffron heavyweight. It simply appeals to my Irish side more than the green. Green is too much of a stereotypical Irish color. That also is why I will never own a Black Watch kilt by choice. Everyone and their brother owns one.

Go with the Saffron if it looks good on you, and will go with the rest of the outfit. Leave the green to the Irish countryside, where it is bountiful. also from Boston, MA
