Jacket issue
Well,
I ordered a kilt jacket (Argyle) and it didn't come in yet (the order wasn't send until 2 weeks after I originally set up the order). Well, I've got a church devotion I was doing for Sunday. I was hoping it could come in but it has not. Well, they provided/loaned me with a Prince Charlie to suffice. I've got a couple questions:
1. Is it inappropriate to not wear the vest?
2. If I can get by without the vest, would my tartan tie look moronic?
3. If NO to the two above, I don't have a bow tie to use, what advice about what to wear with it?
Please help out.......SOON!
Thanks in advance for the advice.

I've personally never seen anyone wear the Prince Charlie without the vest, or with a straight tie. That's not to say that you couldn't do either.
Incidentally, where did you order the Agyle from? Sounds like a local place if they loaned you a P.C. Was it the Thistle and Clover?

Did they not have a vest available to loan you? Also, I purchased a plain black bowtie from a rental shop (the type that supplies prom and wedding garb) for about $4. You might try something like that...

No they did give it to me, but I wasn't sure about the formality and tie stuff. Our congregation is somewhat laidback type, lots of jeans and dockers amoungst the men. I know I'll have a couple friends try to give me a hard time about my "dress" as they put it.

I'd look 'round WalMart or a tux rental for a cheap black bow tie (one of those you don't have to actually tie).
I've seen folks wear PC's without the waistcoat, with just a kilt belt; to me, it looks a little less formal.
If all else fails; go with what you've got.

Chaplain Harris,
A picture is worth a thousand words. Take a look at the "X Markers Formal Kilted Outfits" threads for some ideas about different takes on formal wear (including PC jackets without waistcoats).

Hope this is of some help.

You might try a nice sweater. Not as formal but will look good.

1. Is it inappropriate to not wear the vest?
Answer to this is no it is not inappropriate, however do wear a dress belt with it.
2. If I can get by without the vest, would my tartan tie look moronic?
I think you could away with it, I have worn a regular tie with my P.C.
3. If NO to the two above, I don't have a bow tie to use, what advice about what to wear with it?
I did recently see a tuxedo shirt/bowtie combo at walmart and you might be able to find something like that.
Also a few days ago I went into my local tartan shop and picked up two Argylle jackets that were on consignment, total cost for two jackets $120.00
One is a Harris Tweed, that was on sale for the paltry sum of $40.00, perhaps you could find something like that.
As for your somewhat laidback congregation, I would say wear the P.C. proudly regardless of what they choose to wear to church. You will of course be in front so I really don't think that should be an issue.

Thank you
Thanks for the message. I really appreciate it. Since I'm still new at this I didn't want to make myself look out place when it comes to wearing appropriate attire with a PC.
