Kilt alterations in Southern CA?

Hello everyone!
I live in Southern California (Los Angeles area) and need a reputable tailor to let out my kilt. Any ideas?

Hi missloo,

If it is only one or two inches, you could do it yourself. Move the buckle on your right hip and the strap on your left hip. No need to make any more holes - just sewing. I have done this before and can do it in 59 minutes - tops.

If you can sew a button on a shirt, you can do this.

Even easier than moving buckles are kilt strap extenders, if you just need a smidgen more room. These are straps that buckle into your existing straps and provide extra length/waist room.

Full-on alterations can be expensive and the end product may not be worth it (may not really fit through the pleats, may have to "steal" fabric from deep pleats, etc.). Unless it's a custom weave fabric or other "one off" type garment, you may be better off selling the small kilt and buying a new one in the right size. This has been discussed and recommendations made by Barb T (our resident "wrote the book on kilt-making") in other threads.
