Kilt Hose: How formal with this color

The Amazing Carol finished a new pair of kilt hose for me. She found yarn to match the red stripe in the tartan of my tank. At the present time I can only wear one at a time, for the reason that you can see in the pictures. FYI, the yarn is 40% wool, 40% silk & 20% bamboo. She's now working on a pair to match the green in the tartan. Bless her.

Question is, given the color of the hose, how formal would you go with this color? Would you wear this color hose with a PC, for example? Or, stick to wearing black hose?

The black one looks really sturdy. I like the bamboo part... that's pretty eco-friendly. I usually wear a color that matches the kilt or the shirt. I'm usually piping when I wear a PC, so I end up wearing white hand knit hose. If I weren't piping I'd consider wearing hose that matched my kilt.

I think your matching shirt and socks look almost maroon. If that is the case, I would wear them together or with a dark colored shirt. A tweed jacket would look good too.

I was hoping that you would say that!

Red hose are very traditional and can be worn for any level of formality

I would probably stick with black hose with a PC and pick up the red with my flashes or garter ties. But with hand-knit hose that gorgeous, I'd be tempted...

The hose look great with the shirt in your photo and paired with a tweed jacket and dark tie could work for a dress function a notch less formal than something that calls for the PC.

I remember a comment once long ago about the American penchant for wearing black hose being rather funereal. I forget which of our friends from across the pond made that comment. Personally, I wear white hose for slumming it around the hose or when I'm going to the gym. Black hose only to funerals or if I've got a business meeting since my fellow Americans amongst the unkilted masses can't seem to get it through their heads that dress socks can be a color other than black or navy blue.

I think those red hose would look wonderful when paired with that kilt for anything from a nice daywear tweed to a PC. I'm quite envious.

I am a little curious about the bamboo content. I've never heard of bamboo for yarn. How does it effect the feel of the yarn, if at all? I'm used to just woolen socks so I'm incredibly curious, especially with the touch of silk you mentioned.

And sorry about the leg. It will get better, I'm sure.

The hose are very comfortable. I believe that the yarn came from Peru. The bamboo is supposedly very eco-friendly and wears well. Carol took one of the tartan flashes to the yarn shop for a color match, so that's the yarn that matched. Some other people may be able to add more information.

Those hose are very nice looking, congrats!

They will look fine with a PC, the color works very well, especially since it matches the stripe in the kilt.

What would be really really cool is if you could find a wing collar shirt that matched the hose, and then top that off with a black bowtie and the PC.

    That would be uber-sharp looking!
