Kilt with Jacket Advice
I normally wear no jacket with my kilts but I have picked up a couple of tweed jackets lately and wondered how long is too long for a jacket when worn with a kilt?
A normal sport's coat, if modified, should hang approximately where on the kilt? If there is such a suggestion. I know I've read about members having jackets altered for length but don't remember seeing any length specified.

The Jacket should hang down to the fell line of the kilt or perhaps slightly lower.

Kilt with jacket advice
I recently had a 2 button black blazer altered to an Argyll. Cut 4 iches of bottom which was an inch longer than my purchased formal argyll. Curve worked in by tailor to accommodate sporran and adjustmens made to pockets. Changed buttons to black suit type. Cost $70 CDN. Take a 44T. Pleased with results.

As you are measuring also take a look at the sleeve length. The Hem of the Jacket should be almost the same or 1"-2" above the bottom of the sleeve.
You can see in the final pix, the hem of the jacket is just slightly above the sleeve hem. Looking over catalogs on line, and the dressy pictures of our fellow X-markers, generally the jacket hem is in that range of 1-2 inches above the cuffs.

For the jackets I have made, I will try to have them above the fell. If I am going to convert the jacket to a argyle with cuffs, I will cut off more of the jacket to allow enough material for the cuffs. I like my kilt jackets a little shorter. Not as much as a waist coat but somewhere inbetween.
