I'm going to second the suggestion of Highland Granite.

The fabric is from Lochcarron and is high quality 16oz Scottish Wool.

here is my Highland Granite made by our own Barb Tewksbury.

Well, I was beaten to Maple Leaf and Douglas Modern.

I'd also throw out Stillwater's Black Shadow as well as the good ol' indestructible Black Watch.

I'd second the Maple Leaf. It's a beaut.

Clan heritage is not that much of a worry to me, since I don't really love any of the tartans of family (MacLeod), but I just want to be happy with the kilt. If anybody has any suggestions on some darker greens, blues or greys and blacks, I would love to hear them. I'm new to the kilt thing so any help would be very much appreciated.
Have you thought of Black Watch? It's a universal tartan, probably the most popular one, and therefore the most likely to be available conveniently to you, and at the best price.

You can't get much more darker green, blue and black.

I vote Maple Leaf tartan as well. It's definitely one of my all time favorite tartans.
