Kilt Police – Chime in Please
Ok, so I posted a thread a week ago (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=27322
)with my new Stillwater Heavyweight thinking it was too long. I have done as suggested and put it all together and yes, everyone was correct it fits fine with all of the accessories on.
Now what I (newbie) needs help with is…
Does it look ok all together?
Where should the tie bottom rest?
I was thinking of wearing oatmeal hose with an oatmeal shirt, would that look ok?
Any suggestions of color of shirt and hose for a wedding would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sean

I like your knees. Some may say to lose the belt with a jacket or to do up your laces but me? I say you look just fine.

Looks good to me.
Party on! Be prepared for all the questions:
Where's yer bagpipes?
Why are you wearing THAT?
Are you Scottish?
...and that one perennial inquiry that we all have so much fun with...you all know the one so I won't elaborate.

Ah yes! "Do you want fries with that Coke?"
I get that one all the time.

Sean,
Looking very good! Well done (a belt and a sporran can make a world of difference). My one suggestion to improve the outfit is to change the tie. You have it at a good length. But my monitor shows it as a plain black matching the argyle jacket. With the solid black jacket and the solid green kilt and hose I would go for something a little more daring. Perhaps a striped tie with either a matching green or black stripe, a patterned tie, or if solid a red tie. Just my opinion but the outfit works and looks very nice. Again, well done!
Cheers

The outfit looks good, your tie could come a wee bit lower, but thats not really a big deal, the belt with the Argyle is fine, the only problem with a belt is when it is worn with a vest. The one thing that I was thinking is that with that jacket it might be an idea to wear a dress sporran as to my mind anyway a Black Argyle is sort of formal, not as much as a Prince Charlie, but very close, just my 2 cents.

Yes; you're good to go.
Where should the tie bottom rest?
Precisely where it is. It looks goofy hanging down in front of the belt.

Yes. I like more color myself, but that looks fine.
Any suggestions of color of shirt and hose for a wedding would be appreciated.
That would entirely depend upon the formality (or lack thereof) of the wedding. At a semi-formal wedding during the day, where sassenachs would be in a suit and tie, the above rig would serve admirably. At a more formal evening wedding, rent a Prince Charlie and waistcoat, get a $4.00 bow tie, and loose the belt. At an informal beach or garden wedding, loose the jacket.

Kilt Police, Tartan Div. #1939 reporting:
Not tartan, but that's OK with that kilt.
The ensemble looks good together. The oatmeal hose and shirt look excellent together.
I actually LIKE the black tie with the black jacket. The only question is how the tones and sheen work together in person. A black tie is traditional with a black jacket (think "men in black" as classic suit colors).
If the colors/sheens are to different, I'd get one that matches as close as possible or get one that either matches the kilt or has a coordinating pattern.
For most weddings, the people tend to dress rather traditional (at least down here). So, I'd play it safe and wouldn't get to wild with the tie.

I think you did a great job putting that outfit together! I'm glad the kilt length worked out for you.
A couple of tweaks I would make or at least explore to see if you like them
Bring the flashes forward just a titch (1 titch = 1/2 a scosh = approximately 7 hairs). This will give a bit more color to the folk looking at you from the front.
Make sure the knot on the tie is straight and framed snuggly by the collar. I like a nice tight knot as small as you can get it, but that is hard when we have to shorten the tie so much, the knot falls at a very wide part of the tie.
You've put it all together very well, enjoy!
