Yeah, if you want to be suspended or expelled!

Just hold your head high, smile slyly, and remember the "boots and socks" reply.

Good on you Shane, remember that you always look great in a kilt and most people wish that they had similar to wear. Almost every guy wants to wear a kilt and be admired

    Just stand tall and proud.

Best response to the "skirt/dress" comments is a firm, but polite, "Its a Kilt laddie" spoken in an educational tone.

If you've time to surf or search this board there are a LOT of great responses - polite ones.

Where are your bagpipes? Under my kilt...etc.

Don't worry too much about it. I've been wearing my black Utilikilt to school since August. I get the occaisional skirt comment but i don't let it bother me. I'm the only guy that does it and I am proud to do it. Keep your head up and look people in the eyes.

    Besides, chicks dig the kilt!

    Best of luck to you,

I hope you have a great day kilted at school, I think it's a smart idea to have a few kilties as the ignorant are less likely to kick up a fuss about your choice of dress.

As for responces to questions or comments I try not to have anything ready, I usually judge the situation at the time.

You'll be stealing thunder from the Alpha males... so they just have to comment. They'll try to impress others with question such as ...

    -Nice skirt!

Answer: yes it is... but grown-ups call it a kilt.

-What are you wearing under there?

Answer: Are you making a pass at me?

    -Where are your bagpipes?

    Answer: Same place as yours!

    -Did you lose a bet?

Answer: I won!... The loser is in blue jeans.

    -Are you Scottish?

Answer: As Scottish as I need to be.

    -Are you a true Scot?

As true as I need to be.

    -Are you gay?

    Answer: Are you looking?

These are my stock answers to the usual tired stock questions. Every once in while someone will come up with a new twist, but mostly it's the same old quips. When you're prepared, you can enjoy the experience with confidence.

In a school environment it may be better to answer the "Where are you bagpipes?" question by patting the sides of your kilt, as if checking your pockets and say "gee I must have left them in my other kilt"

something else to keep in mind, many folk will ask the dumbest question, but in an earnest attempt to find out information.

I have found that if I answer their question (sarcastically intended or not) as accurately and informed as possible, it tends to dissuade from attempts at ridicule.

Except for those that I have a taunting relationship with . . . for those, my stock answer to most queries (men and women) is, "I understand, you're just jealous that my calves are nicer than yours. We all have crosses to bear in life."
