Kilt storage

I know this has been brought up at leats several months ago, but I feel it's a valid question: How do you all store your kilts? Hung, draped? shelved? And what do you find the msot effective way of accomplishing said end.

I store my kilt hung on a skirt or trouser clamp hanger in a garment bag. Fold the kilt in half with the apron inside, place one end of the clamp hanger through the belt loop, align the kilt horizontally and close the clamp. This seems to work well. The longer the clamp on the hanger the better this method works.

You should not have any problem with the pleats using this method.

I hang mine. It works out well for me but I am looking into another method to save space. I'll be interested in reading other peoples recommendations.

I hang mine using clamp or clip style hangers. Don't fold them either. On a couple of the really heavy traditional I use two hangars, one on the apron and one on the pleats. Works well so far.

I was hanging my UKs folded in half, on a skirt hanger. Now I fold them in thirds and it takes less depth in my closet. I just bought a multiple skirt hanger so that I can hang 4 kilts (folded in thirds) in the space of one. The only concern is the thickness of three layers of waistband in the clips. I have one SWK standard on it's own clip-style suit hanger. So far, so good.

I believe some other members have made their own custom hangers. Ron, I think - Riverkilt?

Even after getting rid of trousers and discovering plenty of closet space. I still found the best way to hang a kilt is with those long clamped trousers hangars you can pick up at most any store.

I also have an over the door clothes hangar that if worke right can hold up to 6 kilts (hanging with prevviously said clamp type hangars).

Did make some hangers out of 2x2s and hooks to hang my leather kilts from. The kilts hang from hooks on the 2x2 with the belt loops over the hooks. Crude, but it works for me. Leather kilts are also in a garment bag.

I hang my other kilts by plastic WalMart hangers only add extra clips so there are five clips per hanger. My hand sewns traditional kilts from Kathy's Kilts rate a garment bag too.

Kilt space is becoming a big issue.

Technically, I use the woden skirt hangers, but in all honesty, I usually have 2-3 UK's lying on the floor and my SWK spread on the dresser. My tank is always hung when not in use.

And there was me thinking I had invented that method. You are quite right, it works very well. I then put a plastic cover over it.

Almost the same here. I've got three UKs that start out hanging, but as soon as I've worn them once, they end up folded into sixths (snapps overlapped and then folded again) and laid in a pile across a box in the spare room where the cats can't claw at them.
