    Kilts and Cars

Got a bit of a reminder from the Sharing Cautions thread when O'Neille mentioned "and there is absolutely no modest way to exit a Corvette in a kilt."

Now, while I get how to sit down in a kilt, and it works just fine most of the time, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get -into- a car without having several inches thickness of messed up pleats beneath me to try and figure out how to flatten back out again. Any tips there?

I heard that for inclimate weather you could wrap a towel around you tightly before getting into the car and this will keep your pleats in one place. I have not tried it as yet but I will give it a shot.

OR...you could always carry a handy portable steamer with you everywhere you go....keep it in the car's glove box, perhaps?!

Ya' gotta "sweep the pleats" & use one arm to hold in place as you sit down.

While outside the car (door open of course), I aim my butt at the seat, sweep the pleats and sit; Then swing in behind the steering wheel, shut the door.
If you're one of those folk who always has a towell draped over the seat - well, you're screwed!

I do the same as Ozman most of the time. The other option depends on the vehicle and your size. Get into the car lift your backside up by bracing your feet on the floor and your shoulders on the back of the seat, and then sweep. Some vehicles don't have room for this though either because of the design of the car or the size of the kilt wearer.

My truck is too tall to enter in one motion, so I have to resort to Chef's trick. Of course one solution is to let someone else drive, then you're not working "against the grain."

I have considered getting one of those little swivel seat insert contraptions that allow one to sit, then rotate around. Has anyone else tried this?
