    In lieu of a tux?

So, I am in the university choir, and for performances we are required to have:

    • A wing collar shirt
    • A tuxedo jacket
    • A black tie
    • Black tuxedo pants
    • Black cummerbund
    • Black shoes

I talked to the director about the possibility of wearing my Prince Charlie and kilt in lieu of the tuxedo, and he said to bring it in on Monday so he could get a look at it. I will also dress up in it and take a bunch of pictures so he gets the idea of how it looks.

But, I would like some opinions first:

    1) Should I use a bow tie or neck tie?
    2) Vest?
    3) Cummerbund or belt?

Or should I just take pictures of each variation, and see what he says?

I think you want to present as uniform an appearance with the rest of the Choir as possible, so I'd go with the bow tie and cummerbund, myself.

    1) A bow tie always.
    2) Yes; the waistcoat you got with your PC.
    3) Neither.

    Coemgen,

I assume black socks as well? (lol.) I sing in a choir, too.

Well, the colour of the socks wasn't specified, but I assume that black would better conform to the desired effect.

Black bowtie, the PC and waistcoat, no belt or cummerbund. Probably black kilt hose with flashes that coordinate with your kilt.

I just got some black socks for no other reason than I'm expecting a Black Stewart kilt in the mail; I'd never wear them otherwise. I wear hose that compliment the primary color of my kilt; I'm not trying to imitate Darth Vader. For formal wear, I wear either diced or Argyll hose in my tartan (I don't wear white socks either).

Or, would you be Darth Kilter? ;-) Sorry, just in one of those moods tonight...

I would ordinary advise you wear the vest with the PC, but as your fellow chior members are all wearing their tuxedos with a cummerbund and not with a vest, I would in this case argue that the cummerbund with your PC would be more appropriate and in keeping with the prescribed outfit of your group.

Nothing wrong with wearing a cummerbund with the PC. It looks just fine.
