    Looking for Kilt, rather particular...

    Hi all.
I'm brand new to the forums (see my post in the Newbie section), and currently kiltless. With a bit of help, perhaps we could change that, though ;)
    My criterium are as follows:
    • MacGregor Tartan (Preferably Modern)
    • ~30" waist
    • ~21" length
    • Casual or Phillabeg
    • Tight budget!! ($100 limit, may be able to budge $10 or so.)

    That about does it.
If anyone could help, please post!

Also, would casual or Phillabeg be better? I tend to prefer a style similar to the "Economy" ones of the Celtic Croft (here: http://www.kilts-n-stuff.com/Kilts/economy_kilts.html ), but I'd appriciate your input!

    Thanks all,
    MacG

The 2 that come to mind in that price range are a USAK casual or a Sportkilt. Personally, I would go for the USAK, even if it meant waiting a few extra weeks to build up the kilt fund.

Keep in mind accesories such as sporran, (where ya gonna stick that empty wallet anyway?). Suggest Stillwater kilts for that. Being on a kilting budget is tough, be careful on e-bay. Search and read reviews on X-Marks, these guys are honest and won't steer you wrong.

Funnily enough someone posted this today. Might be worthwhile bying the material and send it to a kiltmaker at a later date and buy a basic black kilt now. Everyone needs a black kilt by the way.

I'm not seeing MacGregor as an offering of USAK.

If they rob us of name, and pursue us with beagles,
Give their roofs to the flame, and their flesh to the eagles!
While there's leaves in the forest, and foam on the river,
MacGregor, despite them, shall flourish for ever!

I would never speak for Rocky or Kelly, but I seem to remember him posting that he can get anything from a particular mill (marton?), it would just take longer to get the material. Don't quote me on that, though.

The easiest thing to do is to give them a call, they are very helpful.

Well, I can't speak for USA Kilts either...but I guess that I rather assumed that MacGregor would be one of the tartans available in PV and now I see that it is not...I really thought that it was one of those tartans for which there was enough demand to make it worth the weaver's while to make it in PV. I do see that it's available in the 13 and 16 oz wools...but that would wipe out the chance that you're gonna score for $100.

I'd email the man himself to get an idea of what he might be able to do.
