loose stiching help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I have worn my new kilt to much since Wednesday. In the back near the top where the pleats are sewn down, one pleats stiching has broken. If I don't do something it will continue down to where the stiching ends. What do I need to do to fix it or get it fixed. Can I do some kind of quick stich to stop it from undoing more with out hurting the kilt?

I am sure it will be fine for a night you can deal with it later with a needle and thread while watching tv

Maybe contact the kiltmaker? After all...the kilt is brand new and stitching should last longer

It sound's as though this off-the-peg kilt may not have sufficient hip allowance for you. I'm with McMurdo, just wear it tonight and deal with the rogue pleat later.

or leave it, I've a number on mine. They don't seem to be getting any worse.

But it's old, your's is new, and you looked right proud in it. I'd contact the maker.

Shipping and stuff would probably cost more than a nearby tailor seamstress.

I think there's several x-markers in your area, maybe one of them can recommend somebody.

This is a pretty easy fix, although I agree that a new kilt shouldn't develop popped stitches even if you wear it a lot. A well-made kilt should have so much interior construction (stabilizer, steeking, canvas) that the pleat stitching actually shouldn't be under stress even if you pull the straps really tight.

And, where is the stitching popped? At the top of bottom of the fell?

Well, on the fix. Get some 100% polyester thread (not Dual Duty or cotton) in a color that matches the tartan at the edge of the pleat. Thread a needle with a single thread (not doubled), knot the thread, and feed the needle inside the pleat from the bottom of the fell to hide the knot. Bring the needle to the offending edge of the pleat about an inch below where the stitches are popped and do a very closely-spaced blind stitch along the edge to at least an inch beyond the popped section. Go through the tartan but not the canvas, if you can feel the difference with your needle. See pic below.
