    Making a sash: how wide?

A friend of mine handed me a bunch of old tartan that his dad had gotten many years ago. It's moth-eaten, but there's enough to cut out a long strip (two yards long) for his lady to wear as a sash.

My Question....gents, how wide is the material that has gone into your ladies sashes? I'm thinking 12-18 inches wide should do it..

It's Weathered McKay, and let me tell you, this stuff is beautiful. It's all heathery earth tones and it's just freakin' gorgeous..

The Kilt Store offers them (full sashes, not mini-shashes or sashes with rosettes) in two widths

    25cm x 228cm (Approx. 9.85 x 89.83 inches).....

and the same length, but 11 inches wide. So maybe something about a foot wide is about right.

Any of you guys have one around the house?

Most commercially available lady's sashes are between 10" and 12" wide.

Thanks, Matt. I think I'll just make it two setts wide, hem it and call it good.

If you make it as wide as possible say 19" or 20" she'll be able to wear it as a sash or a stole (wrap) also.
