| |  Measuring for my next kilt
Whilst sorting out bits and bobs for my impending day trip to Edinburgh (to visit TFCK) I was asked how I’m planning of being measured for a kilt suit if I’m wearing a kilt? Now I’ve thought of a few ideas, most notable is don’t wear a kilt! or wear a pair of shorts under my kilt etc. But I want to wear my kilt and I don’t fancy carrying around a pair of shorts in my bag the whole day so I thought I would ask the Rabble for their opinions and if they’ve tried it successfully
So anyone who has worn a kilt to get measured for their next one how did you do it?

How well do you know your kilt maker...or how well do you want to know them, or them to know you?

Hip measurements are usually taken loose and a tight waist measurement could be taken over your kilt and then an inch or so subtracted.
I wouldn't sweat it. Wear your kilt and talk with the folks at TFCK I'm sure they're used to taking measurements over clothing and have a formula for getting good results.

Wear the kilt but be prepared to shed the garment. I prefer to have the measurements close to the "skin".

I was told by my kiltmaker in Edinburgh to come not wearing mine either.
You could always buy a temporary garment close by - plenty of shops on Princes Street.

It should work fine to measure over the kilt you're wearing. That's how my latest one was measured, and it fits like a glove.

Do I not remember a scene in "Are You Being Served" where a Scotsman in a kilt (played by Gordon Kaye, if I have it right) show up and Mr. Humphries has to figure out a discrete way to measure his "inside leg"?
