    Military hose tops

Can anybody tell me how these hose tops are worn and why ? Are they worn over an existing pair of kilt socks, or shorter socks, and why don't they have feet in them ?

ever see baseball or hockey socks? They don't have feet in them either. You do typically wear them over a pair of undersocks.

I suspect that in this military case, that because the feet of socks wear out more quickly, it's more cost effective to keep hose tops in decent shape. Let's face it, hose tops are usually worn by bands that do alot of marching and probably take quite a beating.

Quite correct, cloves, and also the fact that, as many have noted, full diced hose are expensive, and the army cannot afford to supply every Jock squaddie with his own pair which will "take a beating".

Thank you kindly for that link. I am going shopping as soon as I get my two Fraser kilts bought and paid for.

My question Beuth Sim is what shoes will you be wearing? I am just not sure how these will look with normal oxford type shoes.

Well let's see? I have a pair of ankle high gillies, really nice. I have a pair of knee high ghillie boots. {medeval moccasins made them.}, I've spats, boots, Maybe my Tacticals! That way they would fit down in the top of the boot!

Hose tops are really only meant to be worn with spats & military issue shoes; the first web site says that the Calgary Highlanders other ranks (enlisted men) wear Oxford cap toe shoes, while NCO's and officers wear brogues:
