    Military Kilts

Found this interesting site while searching for kilt info a while back. 22 oz. blackwatch kilts for $295!

Does anyone here have any experience with these kilts? And what about a 22 oz. kilt - my 13 oz. is heavy enough.

Thanks for any info you might have.

I have worn a military-weight kilt, Giraffe. It was one I borrowed from the QuarterMaster's Stores whilst doing my National Service back in the late 1950s. I needed a kilt in a hurry to perform in a display of Scottish Country Dancing in a nearby town. I remember the weight as being utterly fantastic for the pleat 'swing factor', but it was very warm (even for an English Summer!) and I'd not want one in my own "Kilt Kollection"!

By the way, I trust you realise that the 'What Price Glory' kilts are modern reproductions and not genuine Army issue.

Those 22 oz kilts would be ok for the winter here, but I wouldn't want to wear one in the warmer weather, like above 30 degrees F.

I own one and love it. It feels great in cold-to-moderate weather. (I've worn it in up to 60 degree weather). It's hot and heavy (I bought mine just before Winter and wore it every day for 2 straight months).

Yes, Hamish, I did see that the seller mentions that he had the material reproduced.

Thank you for your comments - I agree with you that 22 oz. is a little too much for my tastes.
