Does oxblood go with black as well as brown? What say you?

I voted to never mix leathers, b/c my real answer wasn't up there...

IF there's an article in the ensemble that has BOTH colors in it (black and brown in the sporran Geoff shows above), then I think it's OK to mix. I have a black belt with brown knot work embossing. I got it to wear with either color belt and/or shoes.

I did not vote as my real answer is not up there either, like Rocky. I have brown accessories of various shades I do not hesitate to mix up, I have some mixed brown and black in the same item accessories I can wear with either or both, and I have some exclusively black accessories that I typically only wear with other black. If I am wearing the mixed color acessories I may then mix the other accessories (black shoes, brown belt with mixed brown /black sporran for instance). I do not have anything in true oxblood (the densely red "brown" coloartion I remember from my youth).

HOpe this was suitably confusing. Clear as mother's milk now, eh?

Assuing that you mean "while wearing Scottish attire," I answered black or brown, but I could just as well have answered all three.

I would not likely mix black and brownish leathers while wearing a suit or sportcoat or anything else with trousers, but with Highland Scottish clothing, things do change. With standard western wear, I would probably mix oxblood and brown, but not with black. However, i wouldn't hesitate to wear an oxblood sporran with black shoes.

Just a thought.

And, BTW, that's a pretty snazzy sporran, Geoff.

I agree that the survey choices could be better. I voted "Whatever" because I like shoes, belts, sporrans, etc. that are made of more than one color of leather. However, I would not usually wear a brown belt with black shoes.

I don't like to mix black and brown as a rule - such as a black belt and brown sporran. Call me a purist, but its just something I don't like to do.

I do mix browns as I like the contrast. I have a sporran and belt that are both a khaki colored brown and a dark brown. I'm getting ready to order another sporran that will mix two distinctly different shades of brown.

Oxblood is a different matter - I prefer to keep that shade by itself, much as I do black.

My shoes tend to to be the same color as my belt and sporran.

Maybe it reflects badly on me....lord knows that I don't really shop in the higher end mens' stores what with the mortgage payments and the college tuition and all...but when did oxblood shoes make a comeback?

Will cordovan be next?

They haven't and this is a consternation for me as I have long desired a pair of Oxblood brogues which I can wear semi-formally. My regular wear shoes (boots and sandals really) are brown, but my casual and dress shoes are both black. I think oxblood is gorgeous and that oxblood Wyvern sporran would be da shiz, but does it go? I dunno.
