Mmm... Nice Jock. I checked out the other pic and I do love that hue of green - it looks great in the other Casual Pic thread. I'm being pulled strongly in that direction!!

Thanks for mentioning the linen too, Christian. I like that idea... but where would I find someone to make a bespoke linen kilt jacket in my preferred colour from scratch? Did you get yours done here in Sydney?

Thanks for all your help gang!

    Scotty
Before you judge someone be sure to walk a mile in their kilt.
That way you are at least a mile away and you have their kilt...

I had mine done on a whim/afterthought during a biz trip to HK.. I tried to find a good/recommended bespoke tailor in Sydney, but no joy. However, I did find a MTM shop in George St (in the arcade/mall across from the QVB) that was willing to customise one of their MTM standard jackets. Basically, they would have it made w/ no hip pockets nor butonholes, along w/ extra material, and then custom/alter locally from their George St shop, adding the pockets & buttonholes once altered/shortened.

But as you can prolly imagine, it was going to cost a small fortune (A$600-700) to have it done in the Sydney shop, so I gave it a miss.. Until I went to HK and had a 3-pce linen suit along with a kilt jacket and waistcoat tailored for a little more than half that.

And as KFCarter mentioned, linen and linen/cotton blends come in many colours/hues.

Yeah, I was thinking it might be a bit pricey to get done here in Syd. Will have a good look around though. Bugger... and I was in HK three weeks ago! Buggerbuggerbugger...

I do fancy a darkish green or brown... And linen would be cool...

From what I remember of the Australian climate, linen would be a great idea.

I'm thinking of having a linen jacket made. I think it would be just the ticket for our hot summer highland games.

You may have much better luck than I in your search.. It was my first yr in Sydney and I was reliant upon internet/yellow page searches and asking friends whose knowledge was namely limited to shopping @ DJ's and Grace Bros.

Although I was quite pleased w/ the shop I eventually found due to their willingness to accomodate (it was in The Strand I believe..), the price made me think about it for a bit.. And I then ended up going to HK...

The shop in HK had quite a good selection of linen fabric and colours, but as I was initially just getting a 3-pce linen suit and had already settled on the natural/unbleached colour for the suit w/ contrasting brown waistcoat I decided to stick w/ that for the kilt jacket as well.. A sort of a wink and nod towards the "Gentleman in Kharki".

That is a real bugger about just being in HK... If it was a biz trip, hopefully you'll have a chance to go back. There are also a couple good tailors to be found in Bangkok, if you ever go there...

In the meantime, you could always go w/ the Wallace for now, and if/when you ever go back just take it w/ you to have copied in the material/colour of your choosing.

    Cheers,
    Christian

I'll defo have a good hunt around when I get a chance. I won't be back in HK for a bit (was just stopping there on way to UK for a holiday).

I'm going to post a Q on the Freedom Kilts thread (in the kilt makers section) and ask Steve (for the benefit of all) what colours his jackets come in and if he ships to Oz. The prices are looking more favourable than the Wallace on the St Kilda Retail site...
