I'm with Jamie there, the cumberbund was bothering me a bit as well.

Shriner, Rather than put the satin stripe on the side of the leg, consider putting it down the apron edge. Visually it's a more appropriate location. If it were on the side, my eye would be expecting to see a stripe on every pleat Otherwise I'd leave the black kilt as is.

I've just always really liked the Humphrey Bogart Tux look and believe it will translate well into a kilt.

Edit: I like the jacket open rather than fastened also

What I think he is getting at is the balance of the white shirt and white dinner jacket with the solid black pants. The reason that formal outfit works is the nice balance of dark and light. You are introducing not only the tartan but more white into the mix. I think black formal kilt hose might help with the balance. I would also change out the cumberbund for a dress belt.

Cheers

Jamie,

I do have a pair of black kilt hose and think that would be a good idea. I will try the belt and see.

Thanks, John

I also agree with that idea, the black hose with that outfit will look better, and I would also say loose the cummerbund. As far as the sporran goes go for the first one, my comments were more of a personal nature.

Your Frugal Pride of Scotland looks great! Maybe they'll eventually send mine.
I ordered it July 8th It's now Aug 13th and still no Pride of Scotland kilt, from Frugal, nor the belt, nor any reply to my enquiries. (Which, I'm beginning to discover is somewhat typical). Any ideas on how to get them to provide service??

Actually I reckon your white jacket picks up the white in the tartan.

I was under the impression that kilts take 6 to 8 weeks to arrive, that's always been the case with me anyway. Is it faster than that with some vendors?

Oxman,

I have had no problems with service from FC, they have been great. I am a Impulse buyer, I don't like to wait. So when I call I ask Mark "What do you have in My size in a 16oz.?" 44/46 he tells me and I say send it. I did send my first custom order to him today, along with 19 other orders for my Band. I have to wait for him to have the Tartan wove and then the kilts made. I will be jonesing before then and will probably order a other stock 16oz. I have a friend coming tonight to look at a Royal Stewar size 40, if he like it I will have him order me something to replace it. PM Mark W. he is very good about getting back to you. I know he was at the Irish Festival this weekend since Thurday. I now have (4) 16oz., (1) 13oz. and two sporrans from FC and have been happy

John

Hey, does Utilikilts still make their tuxedo kilt?

Tell you what John, I'm betting that some day you have your favorite tartan sewn up into a hand sewn kilt by Kathy or Barb or Matt or someone skilled at the art and you'll feel sooooo much more pride for such an important kilt use.

I think the problem with the white jacket is the jacket itself. It looks like it doesn't hang well on you. To be blunt, it doesn't look nearly as good on you as your white dinner jacket--it looks like you picked it up at a uniform store or mugged a pharmacist. The jacket is the problem.

All that being said, I think that the grey rabbit sporran looks great (I am biased as I have ordered one myself) and agree that darker kilt hose would offset the white.

Good luck.

Thanks John, that eases my mind a bit.
Stillwater delivers in four days, or emails at once if there is a delay, and keeps advising until it is sent. So I guess I'm spoiled.
Am not used to having emails ignored and phone messages not returned in a timely manner-if ever. Would've helped if Frugal responded and maybe given a time frame. After a month, I begin to wonder what's up. Guess I'll just have to watch for the mailman on a daily basis for another few weeks.
Apologies for derailing your thread.
Cheers,
Stan
