Need a kilt jacket, cheap and quick

I've been invited to a party at a facility that requires a jacket and tie for men, and I want to wear a kilt. The problem is, I don't have a jacket. I've checked all the local second hand stores for suitable jackets to convert, and they don't have any that are my size that would look good.

I'd probably get more use out of an Argyll or something similar as opposed to a PC.

I have about 3-4 weeks to get a jacket and waistcoat, and probably no more than $150 US or so to spend.

The only tartans I have (for now) are Black Watch and Campbell of Argyll, so I'm thinking that charcoal or black would look best. Navy blue or another dark blu would probably work too.

Do any of you know where I can get a jacket cheap and quick, or have a jacket in a size 38 chest that you'd be willing to part with?

I'd say Ebay is about your best bet. Once in a while a decent jacket can be found there. I picked up a lovet grey tweed Argyll last year for $125.

ebay is a good idea, you could also see if there are any ex-rental sales at tartan shops in your area. I've picked up kilt jackets anywhere from $40.00 to $200.00 at various kilt shops in my area.

That would be a great idea... but we don't have any tartan shops in my area. We don't even have a tux rental place that can get kilts as far as I know.

Hmmm... I think that just might do the trick...

What about the retail chains? Walmart, Target, Kmart, etc. Most have a jacket or two that'll work and can be modified.

Moosedog once told me about a great place - sixstaruniforms.com out of Brooklyn, New York. You can an eaton jacket for $35 (!) and a very nice looking dress vest for around $15. I ordered one of their vests for band...it was nice quality, inexpensive, looks good (if I do say so myself!), and they ship SUPER FAST!!!
You might want to give 'em a look.

Well, I won a black Argyle on Ebay... Paid a bit more than I had planned, but it's still far less than retail... Just gotta finish up the Best Offer auction on a matching vest, arrange shipping, and I'm set.

I hope that you find that you've gotten a great buy. The price certainly is fantastic, even with shipping and the lousy exchange rate of the dollar.

On the ebay page which Crusty posted above, the vests don't indicate any size. Are they normally one size fits all?
