New Sporran??

Hello all,

I'm searching for a new dress sporran and kinda like the red fox ones that I've seen.. My question is do you guys think this would go well with an Anc Cameron kilt.. Also anyone know a source for the larger link sporran chains not the standard ones.. Thanks in advance..

Just be really careful of the fancy chains, I have personal knowledge of a kilt [clarification: TANK] damaged [clarification: hole snagged, large enough to require reweaving repair] by an expensive decorative sporran chain. . . inspect for sharp edges and places where the chain links do not meet perfectly. There's been discussion here about only using welded chain, for that reason.

I've worn the kilt for more than 40 years and have never suffered any "chain rash". I'll concede that it might pose a potential problem on lightweight, non-wool kilts as I have no experience of those.

As you are down in Ft. Lauderdale you might check out jewelry supply shops and look for heavy sterling silver chains, which can be purchased by the yard, and which will definitely be nicer than the chrome things that come with sporrans these days.

Personally, I think the two should match well. I don't have the tartan so i am looking at it on line, but I do have a red fox sporran. Good luck with you choice.

I have worn chain straps for 20 years and never had any fraying on my heavyweights.. But I definitely would inspect any new one to check for sharp edges.. I thank everyone for their responses and I'm gonna pull the trigger so to speak on a red fox sporran.. Just looking for the chain now not the small links but one that actually looks like a metal chain link...
