    Order Stuck in New Jersey

Well, I just checked on the status of my delivery from Kiltstore and it seems to be stuck at the FedEx facility in New Jersey for "Regulatory agency clearance delay" since the 16th. I wonder how long that will take!

If by "Regulatory agency" they mean Customs, you might have it by Memorial Day. Good luck.

It means you have a declaration to complete. It should be shipped within a day when you fax back the form. Call them and have it faxed to you ASAP. It also means that they are determining what to bill you for. Make sure they understand it is for personal use, that will save you $25.
You can find my original thread if you want for the whole story, but I no longer use FedEx. I request all my business partners to do the same.

Arrrgh... FedEx! The main reason anyone uses FedEx is "speed" but FedEx runs it's own customs clearing for out of country items. I find they are a little overzealous in their customs clearing. I would imagine they want to play by the book or lose this little luxury. The byproduct is that you pay to have an item overnight and have a 50%+ chance it gets held up in customs for a few months

My advice is to have them ship it Royal Air. I seldom have it take more than 10 days, it gets passed on to the USPS, almost always skates past customs, and even if customs are due you are dealing with the US government who is not known for being very good at doing a thorough job. So most of the time they never bother collecting it.

    Just my 2 cents.

I agree. I always have things shipped to me via the USPS and the foreign equivalent (depending on the nation of origin) and there is never any delay and I've never had a customs fee levied.

When I'm shiping products overseas to international customers wanting glass stuff I always use USPS for the same reason.

    Talking delays

Katie at Crescent Moon told me that once the FDA had to come out to check a kilt because someone had labeled it as food since wool is an animal byproduct

    Angry

I've received two shipments via FedEx. The first was a kilt and accesory. Total value- about $150. No taxes or duty. Dandy. Next shipment was an eton jacket worth about $50. Some days after delivery FedEx sent me an invoice for taxes paid on my behalf at the border. No duty, just about $4 in tax and then a WHOPPING BIG $15 brokerage fee. :-x No, I won't use FedEx any longer if I can help it.
    I've kilt for less.

All my foreign customers specifically ask me NOT to use FedEx when shipping them their packages because they always wind up incurring excessive and unnecessary charges.

I didn't relay any preference for this order, but I have another coming next month and I will certainly specify this time. No FedEx from overseas!

I was gone for a week when all this happened and came home to a message on my phone yesterday. I will have to call them and see what they want.
