Oh crumbs, this could(will) cause confusion! You will see hats advertised with different labels than the answer I am going to give,so be warned! Where do I start? Traditionally, a deer stalker is the Sherlock Holmes hat and a fore and aft is a bit like a deer stalker but without the flaps. If you stick to those thoughts and ignore anything that says otherwise, it will be less confusing.

I was at the tartan shop the other day, they had both the fore and aft and the deerstalker, unfortunately they did not have one big enough for my big Scottish heid. If I get one I'll be sure to post pictures.
