You could write your name and date of purchase on the inside with laundry marker.

4 years ago on return from Ireland after two weeks I was pulled aside randomly for a customs check and got quizzed by US customs about my purchase of several Irish sweaters and a few other things. I had declared them but when they saw the sweaters they did not beleive the valuation of them until I produced the receipts. Turns out I got several very good deals on some very nice sweaters that even amazed the customs guys. They also questioned a couple bottles of nice irish whiskey I purchased in the duty-free on my way out of Dublin, but were again amazed that the valuation I had given matched the receipts for the actual purchased bottles in my luggage. On my way after about a ten minute delay.

Phesh! It's cheaper to pay the shipping! Unless I wanted to vacation in Scotland, I wouldn't go. Though, picking up a kilt would make for a good excuse...

I just got back from Scotland and didn't have even the first question in customs about my kilts, which I took with me, or any of the items I bought in Scotland for that matter. You'll be fine.

I guess I just took a lesson from an old teacher of mine who, anytime we individually spoke of our esperience in a certain area, would respond with her favorite line,"Experience is a haphazard teacher." Meaning of course that the majority of people have a typical experience, i.e., no problems with customs, but if you happen to be that one guy in a hundred who get pulled out for a random check and you don't have documentation you just never know what might happen.

So I will carry my reciepts for anything scottishmade or unlabeled whenever I go to Scotland with my kilt stuff, just in case. A few pieces of paper don't weigh much or take up much space, so the ony reason not to is either that you don;t have them or are too busy/lazy to go looking for them.
