IS it Right

So pictures of my first day kilted. it's a Stillwater Thrifty Kilt in Black Stewart.

so am i wearing it right. IS it too high, or too low? I appreciate the advice .

It looks a little low the kilt should hit at the top of your knees.

Hard to tell when you're grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

You'll probably hear the stripes and plaid no go thing pretty soon.

I'm guessing it's about the right length. It's always hard to tell because people generally take pics looking down which gives the wrong perspective.

Time to start looking at accessories.

Yep. Too low. Have fun getting your accessories together. That's one of the best parts of this kilt deal.

I now own five sporrans, for example. I can no longer chide my wife about collecting purses.

Kilts are usually warn rather high - conmpared to trousers. A bit above the belly button so the kilt is about mid-knee, even a bit higher. I usually throw on a belt and sporran. Aren't Thrifty's great? So easy to put on, inexpensive, and nice & cool for hot weather. I have a Black Stewart & an Irish National.

That looks pretty good. It should be mid-knee traditionally which it is and higher than you would wear pants at the waist (that way it hangs better especially with a beer gut like mine). A nice-looking kilt with good pleating too. Good health to wear it.

I think it looks pretty good as it is, just don't let it go any lower. Put on a belt and sporran and you won't feel so...expansive top to bottom.

I'd go a "smidge" higher to get it to the top of the knee. You have plenty of room at the top to wear it higher without it getting to your armpits

It will feel odd at first since modern jeans do not reach that high, but it will feel perfect in a kilt.

If you "blouse" out your shirt a bit more around the top of the kilt it will hide the waist band that doesn't quite match the pattern and blend the top and the bottom half of the outfit.

Add in your accessories and your golden!

As everyone has said, pull it up a smidge to show off some knee. Other than that, the kilt looks pretty good.

Now, as to the shirt/kilt combination. You really need to wear a solid color shirt with a tartan kilt. Just as with any articles of clothing, you really shouldn't combine patterns. That being said, the base color of the shirt looks pretty good with the kilt.

Now you need some accessories.
