Andrew, I think you will find the Red flashes to be just the thing. I have only seen a Saffron Kilt once but he had Red flashes and I thought it looked good.

I actually bought a pair of the SWK red flashes at the same time I bought my saffron kilt. I actually ordered them with the intention of matching with my Wallace kilt. I'll still use them for that. BUT, I'd been thinking they'd look good with the saffron too.

I'm using my green flashes until someone offers the saffron ones. The green flashes look pretty sharp with the saffron kilt.

That was just the tip I needed, thanks. I was also looking for saffron flashes, but I wanted them to go with my StillWater heavyweight shadow tartan green, so bright orange would do at least as well.

After reading your post I went surfing over to the Scottish Tartans Museum giftshop kilt hose and flashes page (scroll down to the bottom). It turns out they carry a good selection of flashes. I chose the "ancient red (orange)" shown as the middle pair in the image below.

While I was ordering the flashes, I decided to save on shipping and order the Glenurquhart sgian dubh in brown at the same time.

    Glad I read this thread.

    Scott:
The Glenurquhart is a nice little dress knife. I have the same one and like it a lot.

I have to wait until payday to pick up more kilt related goodies... this payday was my rent check...so I have considerably less to "play" with. But red flashes, brown brogues, and perhaps a set of red/white warhose are on the list.

It certainly is. I received the flashes and knife yesterday (thanks Matt!) and I'm very happy with the purchase. As suggested, the "ancient red" flashes look perfectly saffron. If anyone is still looking for saffron flashes, this is as good a match as I've seen.

    Saffron Tie

SWK had a wool tie on their site last night in the Saffron color. I went ahead and ordered it. I wanted two but they seemed to only have the one.

I'm not sure yet, but I may cut it up and make flashes. (If they had had two ties I would have kept one as a tie and cut the other up for the flashes)

It should be here in a few days and I'll post a pic of how close it matches the SWK heavyweight kilt.

Call Jerry about it. Chances are he has more but the store only lists one at a time.

Well, it's your call, of course, and at $16 the tie costs less than Matt Newsome charges for flashes ($18). The tie does come in the shadow tartan, but I'm not convinced that that subtlety will be visible in flashes even under the best of conditions (anyone that close to flashes is on-the-floor-drunk after all). If, however, you feel your time to transmogrify a tie into flashes is worth two bucks, well then -- good on ya! Show us the pictures when you're done.

    Regards,
