Semi casual with black argyle and sweater?

So I'm going out to the pub later tonight, and being that it's 5 degrees out it'd be wise to wear a jacket. It's too informal for a dress shirt and tie, so I was wondering about a nice sweater and black argyle. I took a pic of me with just the vest, and one of just the jacket in the hopes you can see the overall image better.

I apologize in advance for the god awful picture quality...

There is absolutely no merit in being cold,but in actual fact I think, leave the jacket and waistcoat(vest) behind.You are after all going informal.If possible,do you have an informal sporran and strap?When all said and done it is down to you and of course the kit that you have got, or not got, so,get out there and enjoy yourself!Have fun.

I'm with Jock, leave the jacket at home. Sweater, overcoat (till you get into the pub), casual sporran and Kilt (and hose so you don't freeze your legs off).

I have some wonderful thick wool hose that my mum made me, my legs never freeze. It's just the upper torso that does! Thanks for the suggestions guys

Great advice so far. Not the least of which was:

With that in mind, if you really enjoy wearing your fine Argyle jacket and want to show it off, go for it!

I'm in the process of making my own tweed jacket right now, I just didn't have enough time to finish it before tonight

It's a bit hard to see the pics but I have indeed worn my Braemar jacket with a sweater and kilt. I would not wear a very dark colored sweater with the black jacket though. I wore cream sweater, black Braemar and a very bright tartan. I would not wear the black Argyll waistcoat without wearing a tie. It's just too formal. I'd also wear a less formal sporran but if you have just the one then go for it.

Lift one what, pleat or pint? Did you see my thread from last week where a girl asked me to moon her boss? . Anyway. I think you're right about the dark colors. I have a light gray turtle neck thats rather heavy, so I think I shall wear that later. I'll try and get some pics of me and my mates tonight.

Well, lift a pleat -or- a pint. Just not at the same time.

Black jacket and gray turtleneck. Should work well.
