Soliciting waistcoat ideas
I bought my lovat green Argyll jacket (pictured below) from an Ebay seller a few years back. I really like it, but I've been thinking lately that I'd like to wear a waistcoat (vest) with it on occasion. I know I'm never going to match the color exactly, so I'm wondering if any of you have paired contrasting waistcoats with your jackets. I'd particularly be interested in ideas that would work with the kilt I'm wearing in the picture and I'm not looking to spend a lot of money. Thanks in advance for your input.

Sure, there are many examples of wearing different coloured waistcoats. Best bet is to try not to pick a colour that's too close to what you have. Make it completely different (but coordinated). In your case, maybe a shade of green would work?

As Tobus said, don't try to match the colour of your jacket unless you can get one that is an exact match. As an example of totally different colours, here I am in a poacher tweed braemar with a deep burgundy waistcoat.

Oh yes, contrasting works great with an Argyle. I have a dark green one with which I sometimes wear a red waistcoat for festive occasions or a beige/fawn one for more ordinary ones. I agree with Tobus (above) re: choice of colors. Find something that is obviously different from the color of your coat but goes well with it!

You may find a small check ( orphaned from an old 3 piece suit) or some other small pattern will work. A small pattern in a related color or colors may come closer to matching overall than a contrasting solid.
I know, I know, not everybody wants or needs to match, but some like it.

These folks do made to measure and seem to have a ton of fabrics and options:

For the record I have not ordered from them yet but plan to very shortly.

Here's a nice wool one (with lapels!) in a dark olive color:

But, the problem with wearing a "non-Scottish" vest with your Argyll is that you won't be matching the antler buttons (if that matters).
And check out this blue-ish one to go with your kilt:

And I would be seriously tempted by a nice scarlet waistcoat with that tartan - but I also tend to be a bit bolder than most with my colour choices.
